Amazing capture! That looks like a big fish caught and staring down its captor's throat here! So does the bird really manage to win the battle and gulp that whole thing okay? Does the fish put up a good fight, if eaten does the unlucky prey get swallowed wriggling all the way down as well?!

Thank you Kyle. You are correct. The fish is swallowed whole and alive. The Merganser keeps tossing the fish around until he gets the fish heading down face first and down it goes! Quite a sight, much like how a Great Blue Heron or Egret swallow fish.
